My Team Rules

  1. Don’t be afraid to fail. It will consume mental space that will help you succeed.
  2. Have a growth mindset. You win and you learn or you lose and you learn. What’s important is learning.
  3. Control the controllable. Don’t worry about the rest.
  4. No negative talk. This iIncludes to the other team. Don’t say “my bad.” You can say “I’ll get the next one or “keep setting me, I’ll get it.”
  5. Don’t look at everything as a test or competition, you will only do enough to play or win and miss out on the opportunity to maximize your growth or experience.
  6. Talent without character is like an expensive car without gas, so operate with a full tank or you’ll be stuck in the garage.
  7. Put in the work, there’s no such thing as microwaveable mastery.
  8. Don’t get caught in comparing. Comparison is the thief of all joy.
  9. Don’t ask God to get you out of difficult circumstances. Ask him what he wants you to get out of it.
  10. Most importantly, have fun.

Why I do this.

The short answer is Jesus. God has put a calling on my life to be here and bring glory to His name through coaching volleyball and it gets me fired up. I personally love the opportunities volleyball creates for us to display the impact Christ has in our lives. Every play in volleyball essentially ends in someone making a mistake that everyone sees. Immediately a whole team comes and lifts that person up and tells them it’s okay we’re going to get the next one. That doesn’t happen in any other sports. I want to help my players learn to take those lessons from the court and exercise it in their everyday lives and ultimately bring glory to God.
